For Faculty

Welcome to IIT Delhi

IIT Delhi is a green and vibrant campus of 325 acres in the heart of Delhi. The campus is an oasis in the hustle and bustle of the capital city, providing the best of both worlds, a quiet and safe space to live in and a great public transport system with easy access to any other part of the city and beyond.

The IITD community heartily welcomes you. The information in this corner has been curated and collated mainly by people who joined ahead of you. The hope is to ease your transition. Being a vibrant place, our processes continue to change, usually for the better. With your help, we will try to keep the pages updated. Let’s begin with the first experience.

As you enter the campus, giant trees lining the pathway reach across in your welcome. As you negotiate the round-about, the rose garden drifts by on your left and the immaculately dressed lawns lie lazily sprawled at your right. Soon the Main Building rises proudly on your right. It is the oldest building of IIT Delhi. Don’t blink or you may miss the preening act of the shining Lecture Hall Complex behind the art deco on your left. Look right to view emerge the famous ‘hyperbolic paraboloid’ or the ‘ship-like’ roof structure of the annex to the main building. This is a famous distinguishing architecture of the institute and envelops Dogra Hall. Dogra Hall, named after the first Director of IIT Delhi, Prof. RN Dogra, with a capacity of 1500, has witnessed many a convocation as well as spirited discourses including acclaimed personalities ranging from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter founder Jack Dorsey to His Holiness the Dalai Lama. There is a multi-storey library next to it, in case you get duly inspired and decide to spend a night or two in it!

Research thrives in high end laboratories and centers of excellence that help faculty and students across disciplines to explore new academic limits in their goals to solve the most challenging problems of the world. However, if you wish to take a break and rejuvenate yourself, you can take a stroll in the lawns of the campus where over hundred kinds of birds and a plethora of flora and fauna exist in harmony. There is a Faculty Lounge at the top floor of the Main building, where you can enjoy good food and a good view. Some years ago, the famous Lotus Temple of Delhi used to be clearly visible from this point, but now uncountable trees have veiled that view. You may still like to spend some time standing there with a mug of freshly brewed coffee in your hand. (Psst, the view in the rainy season is breathtaking.)

IIT Delhi has sporting and recreational facilities to keep you in good shape. There are sprawling football grounds, volleyball, basketball courts to name a few.

We welcome you to the most vibrant part of capital, the “South Delhi”, where heritage blends with modern conveniences in a celebration of diversity, innovation and creativity.

Come and find yourself by losing yourself!
