Seminar on IP awareness at IIT Delhi

In an attempt to build awareness on the Intellectual Property, a seminar was held on Patent and Publish at IIT Delhi on Thursday.

The FIIT-IRD joint initiative was aimed at disseminating the importance and relevance of IP.

Dr. Malathi Lakshmikumaran gave a stimulating talk on IP while underlining all the finer details on its relevance especially in the Indian context.

Maintaining that IP was a negative right she said: “You may have a right but that does not mean you can use it.”

Observing that there was always a thin line that divided between invention and discovery she said that a patent had to have something that was technologically advanced and economically significant.

Dr. Malathi also gave several case studies on the monetization of IP in the Indian context.

In the second part of the seminar Ms. Saumya Mishra of FITT enlightened the audience on the timelines which should be complied with, the different types of IP and filing mechanism.

The seminar was followed by a question answer session.
