Indo-Russian Bootcamp for school students

IIT Delhi Design Innovation Center (DIC) supported by MHRD hosted 10 students from SIRIUS, Russia and another 10 students form Atal Tinkering Labs, India from October 1 – 5 for an innovation Bootcamp which was organized under the aegis of Niti Aayog. The students working in 5 teams spent their time in the design studio and makerspace of Department of Design at IIT Delhi and worked on hardware-based solutions to five needs in the domain of healthcare, clean energy, smart mobility, and agriculture and space technology.

Dr Rajiv Kumar Vice Chairman Niti Ayog, Dr G Satheesh Reddy, Chairman DRDO, Padma Shri Dr Annadurai, Former Director, ISRO Satellite Centre(ISAC), Bangalore, Dr K VijayRaghavan, Principal Scientific Advisor to Government of India visited IIT Delhi during the boot camp to encourage and excite the students.

“The Department of Design, IIT Delhi hosted 20 students India and Russia who spent 5 days at the Institute. Boot camps such as these, shows enormous innovation potential of our present generation of students and their attitude to look at problems as opportunities,” says Prof P. V. Madhusudhan Rao, Coordinator, DIC IIT Delhi.

As many as 20 students working in 5 teams came up with wonderful innovations working with mentors from IIT Delhi and Atal Innovation Mission (AIM). These innovations were presented to Visiting Russian President Mr. Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi in a programme held at ITC Maurya Sheraton. The two leaders spent 45 minutes with students and appreciated the efforts of students and their mentors. The program was telecast live by Doordarshan.
