Formula Bharat Electric Award

Axlr8r Formula Racing, the Automobile Club of IIT Delhi, has bagged the first prize at the Formula Bharat Electric Vehicle Design Challenge held at Coimbatore recently.

Axlr8r consists of 20 college students who have come together on a common platform for fabricating an open wheel race car with focus on design, reliability and performance. Since its inception in 2006, the team has participated in FS California (2007), FS UK (2008), FS UK (2009), FS UK (2012) and FDC India (2015). From 2015, the team has pivoted to electric cars for better performance, efficiency and the need for the development of sustainable transport in India.

The competition was judged on the design of each component of a Formula style-open wheel, single seater car. The powertrain of the Axlr8r’s car is Electric using two powerful motors of 18 kW each and peak power of 36 kW each.

19 teams registered for the event from many reputed colleges of the country including IIT Bombay and IIT Madras.

The team is currently aiming to develop indigenous technology for electric vehicles. It has made 2 electric vehicles and the third one is under process.

The team have been guided by Prof. Sudarsan Ghosh. Also, the team have been assisted by Prof. PVM Rao and Prof. Amit Gupta.
